RLUSD price context
Over the past 30 days RLUSD has moved +0.03% and over the past 90 days +0.03%.
Circulating supply is 1,468,745,263 RLUSD , with no fixed maximum supply. RLUSD has no fixed maximum supply: tokens are minted when authorised participants deposit US dollars and burned on redemption, so circulating supply tracks demand rather than a schedule.
How stable is Ripple USD's peg?
The widest deviations Ripple USD has ever shown from its $1.00 peg were an intraday $1.073 (+7.3%) on December 26, 2024 and $0.9623 (−3.8%) on December 18, 2024 (CoinGecko) — both in the first days after launch, when a new token is still finding its market. That is price discovery, not a depeg.
Since then it has been boring by design: on a daily-close basis its widest marks in our CoinMarketCap data are $1.0051 (December 20, 2024) and $0.9975 (April 12, 2025) — inside roughly a cent of $1.00. For a stablecoin a flat line is the point: it means the peg is holding.
Ripple USD growth: market cap & supply
Ripple USD's story isn't in its price — it's in its size. From about $53.1M in market cap at launch (December 19, 2024) it has grown to $1.47B today, with circulating supply rising in step because each token is minted against a dollar of reserves. The chart below is real market cap from our CoinMarketCap data, since Dec 2024.

What backs Ripple USD and drives its adoption
- Reserve backing is the core of the trust story: Ripple states RLUSD is backed by US dollars and cash equivalents held in segregated accounts, and its subsidiary describes the reserve as short-term US Treasuries, cash and money-market holdings. Because the token is meant to stay at $1.00, "what moves the price" is really what keeps the peg intact — the quality and liquidity of those reserves.
- Regulatory standing: RLUSD is issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, a limited-purpose trust company chartered and supervised by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), which requires 100% backing by liquid, short-term reserves. That charter, not market demand, is what underwrites the peg.
- Independent attestations: Ripple publishes monthly attestation reports from an independent US-licensed CPA on the amount of RLUSD in circulation and the composition of the reserve. Attestation quality — the standing risk category for every stablecoin — is the main thing a holder is trusting.
- Reserve custody at BNY: in July 2025 Ripple named BNY (BNY Mellon) as the primary custodian of RLUSD reserves, with BNY also providing transaction-banking services to move reserve assets during minting and redemption. A top-tier custodian reduces, though does not eliminate, reserve-handling risk.
- A move toward federal oversight: on 12 December 2025 the OCC granted Ripple National Trust Bank conditional approval for a national trust bank charter; Ripple says the bank will manage the RLUSD reserve, putting the stablecoin under both state (NYDFS) and federal (OCC) supervision once the bank is operational. The charter is conditional, not yet fully operational.
- Adoption, not speculation, drives the size: exchange listings (Binance, Kraken, Bitstamp, OKX and others), integration into Ripple Payments, and institutional use are what grow circulating supply and market cap. Those show up as growth in size, not price.
“Because the token is meant to stay at $1.00, “what moves the price” is really what keeps the peg intact — the quality and liquidity of those reserves.”
About Ripple USD
RLUSD launched on 17 December 2024 as Ripple's entry into the regulated-stablecoin market, issued not by Ripple directly but by its subsidiary Standard Custody & Trust Company, LLC, a New York limited-purpose trust company. Ripple positions it as an enterprise-grade dollar token for payments and settlement rather than a trading chip, and it is redeemable 1:1 for US dollars through Ripple's mint-and-redeem interface. Minting and redemption are handled by authorised participants: dollars in, tokens out, and the reverse on redemption.
The token is issued natively on more than one chain — the XRP Ledger and Ethereum at launch, with contracts since extended to networks such as Optimism, Base, Unichain and Ink — so the same RLUSD exists as separate but fungible issuances across chains. It is distinct from XRP: RLUSD is a fully reserved dollar token, while XRP is the XRP Ledger's volatile native asset. RLUSD uses the XRP Ledger for settlement but does not replace or compete with XRP; the two serve different roles in Ripple's stack.
RLUSD tokenomics
RLUSD has no fixed supply and no maximum: tokens exist only against reserves. Standard Custody & Trust Company mints RLUSD when authorised participants deposit US dollars and burns tokens on redemption, so circulating supply — about 1.56 billion RLUSD as of this snapshot — equals the dollars held in reserve. Ripple states the reserve is held in segregated accounts and composed of cash and cash equivalents including short-term US Treasuries, custodied by BNY, with an independent CPA publishing monthly attestations that reserves fully cover tokens in circulation. There is no staking yield, no rebasing and no algorithmic peg mechanism: the peg is maintained by 1:1 redeemability against those reserves.
How to buy Ripple USD
RLUSD trades on several major exchanges, including Binance, Kraken, Bitstamp and OKX, and can be moved across the chains it is issued on (the XRP Ledger, Ethereum and others). Institutions and authorised participants can also mint and redeem RLUSD 1:1 for US dollars directly through Ripple. As with any stablecoin, the practical questions are reserve quality and redemption access rather than price — this page carries no affiliate links and recommends no venue.
Ripple USD FAQ
Is RLUSD backed by real reserves?
Yes. Ripple states that RLUSD is backed by US dollars and cash equivalents held in segregated accounts, and its issuer describes the reserve as short-term US Treasuries, cash and money-market holdings. An independent US-licensed CPA publishes monthly attestation reports on whether reserves fully cover the tokens in circulation. Attestations are not the same as a full financial audit, which is the standing thing to watch for any stablecoin.
Has RLUSD ever depegged?
It has not had a material depeg. Its widest observed deviations from $1.00 both came in the first days after its December 2024 launch, during initial price discovery — an intraday high near $1.07 and a low near $0.96 per CoinGecko. Since then it has traded within roughly a cent of $1.00 on a daily-close basis, with no sustained break of the peg.
Is RLUSD regulated?
Yes. RLUSD is issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, a limited-purpose trust company chartered and supervised by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), which requires the token to be fully backed by liquid, short-term reserves. In December 2025 the OCC also granted Ripple National Trust Bank conditional approval for a federal trust charter that would oversee the RLUSD reserve, adding federal supervision once the bank is operational.
Does RLUSD replace or compete with XRP?
No. They are different assets with different jobs. RLUSD is a fully reserved dollar stablecoin designed to hold $1.00; XRP is the XRP Ledger's native asset, whose price floats with the market. RLUSD is issued on the XRP Ledger (among other chains) and uses it for settlement, but it does not replace XRP or compete with it — a rise in RLUSD adoption does not come at XRP's expense.
How do you redeem RLUSD for dollars?
RLUSD is redeemable 1:1 for US dollars. In practice, authorised participants and institutions mint and redeem directly with Ripple — dollars are deposited to mint tokens, and tokens are burned to release dollars. Individual holders typically convert RLUSD to dollars by selling on an exchange that lists it. Ripple states that even if it stopped issuing RLUSD, holders would still be able to exchange their tokens for an equivalent amount of US dollars.
Which blockchains is RLUSD on?
RLUSD is issued natively on the XRP Ledger and Ethereum, and its contracts have since been extended to additional networks including Optimism, Base, Unichain and Ink. The same token exists as separate issuances on each chain; check which network an exchange or wallet uses before transferring, because the addresses are not interchangeable.
How big is RLUSD compared with USDT and USDC?
Much smaller. As of this snapshot RLUSD sits around a $1.56 billion market cap at roughly rank 43, versus about $184 billion for Tether (USDT) and about $73 billion for USD Coin (USDC). RLUSD is newer — launched December 2024 — and growing, but it is a fraction of the size of the two incumbents, and size and liquidity are part of what a stablecoin holder is weighing.
