Over the past 30 days BNB has moved +3.22% and over the past 90 days −6.82%.

Circulating supply is 133,165,186 BNB , against a maximum supply of 133,165,188 BNB. BNB launched with 200 million coins and burns its way down toward a 100 million target: a quarterly Auto-Burn removes coins on a formula tied to price and block production, and BEP-95 burns a slice of every block's gas fees in real time. Roughly 135 million BNB remain, and unlike the original buyback pledge, the burn no longer depends on Binance reporting profits.

The gap to the record

Getting back to $1,370 from here would take a 2.4× move — that multiple, not the percentage, is the honest way to read a drawdown. The figure above updates every hour as our price snapshot refreshes; the record itself is an editorial fact recorded from CoinGecko.

All-time low

BNB's recorded all-time low is $0.0398, on October 19, 2017 (CoinGecko). From that low to today's price is the other end of the same story — aggregators differ on launch-era data, so we name the source we cite.

What moves BNB's price

  • Binance's legal record, stated plainly: in November 2023 Binance pleaded guilty to US anti-money-laundering and sanctions violations and paid about $4.3 billion — among the largest corporate penalties in US history — while founder Changpeng 'CZ' Zhao pleaded guilty personally, paid $50 million, resigned as CEO, and served four months in 2024. President Trump pardoned him on October 23, 2025, a decision that drew bipartisan criticism over Trump-family crypto ties and coincided with BNB's all-time-high month.
  • The SEC arc: the June 2023 SEC suit alleged BNB itself was an unregistered security, an overhang that suppressed US access for two years; the case was dismissed with prejudice in May 2025 without any ruling that BNB is a security, removing the single largest regulatory threat to the token.
  • The October 2022 bridge hack: an attacker forged proofs on the BSC Token Hub bridge and minted roughly 2 million new BNB (~$570 million notional); validators halted the entire chain to strand most of it, with about $100 million escaping. The episode is the canonical example of both bridge risk and how centralized BNB Chain's validator set can act.
  • The burn schedule: quarterly Auto-Burns (about 1.37 million BNB, worth ~$1.27 billion, in the January 2026 burn) plus continuous BEP-95 gas-fee burning make supply reduction a mechanical, predictable bid — and because the formula burns more coins when the price is lower, it leans against downturns.
  • Exchange utility: BNB demand tracks Binance's business — trading-fee discounts, Launchpad and Launchpool allocations that pay holders in new tokens, and HODLer airdrops all require holding BNB, so exchange volumes and listing activity feed token demand directly.
  • BNB Chain activity: BNB is gas for BNB Smart Chain and opBNB, and the 2025 hard forks (Pascal, Lorentz, Maxwell) cut block times from 3 seconds toward 0.45 seconds while 30-day DEX volume hit a record $166 billion in June 2025 — usage cycles, especially memecoin waves, show up in fee burn and price.

“in November 2023 Binance pleaded guilty to US anti-money-laundering and sanctions violations and paid about $4.”

KEY DRIVER · BINANCE'S LEGAL RECORD, STATED PLAINLY

About BNB

BNB began in July 2017 as Binance Coin, an ERC-20 token sold in Binance's $15 million ICO, migrated to its own chain in 2019, and was rebranded BNB ('Build and Build') in 2022. What started as an exchange loyalty token is now the native asset of BNB Chain — an EVM-compatible proof-of-staked-authority network that consistently ranks among the most-used blockchains, home to PancakeSwap, the Venus money market, and successive memecoin booms, with a small validator set that trades decentralization for speed and low fees.

No major asset's history is more entangled with a single company's legal record: the October 2022 bridge hack minted ~$570 million of BNB before a coordinated chain halt, the 2023 SEC suit called BNB an unregistered security, and in November 2023 Binance's $4.3 billion DOJ settlement forced founder CZ's guilty plea and resignation. The 2025 reversal was just as dramatic — the SEC case dismissed with prejudice in May, CZ pardoned in October — and BNB printed its $1,370 all-time high the same month the pardon landed.

BNB tokenomics

Genesis supply was 200 million BNB: 50% sold in the 2017 ICO, 40% to the founding team, and 10% to angel investors. Supply only falls from there — the quarterly Auto-Burn (34 burns completed as of January 2026) removes coins on a formula tied to BNB's average price and BSC blocks produced, and BEP-95 burns part of every block's gas fees in real time, together working the supply from roughly 135 million down toward a 100 million floor. Validators and delegators also stake BNB to secure the chain and earn fee income.

AUTO-BURN
Quarterly
protocol burns BNB toward a 100M target from the initial 200M.

How to buy BNB

BNB's deepest market is Binance itself, with Binance.US serving American customers; it is not listed on Coinbase or Kraken's US spot markets, so US buyers are effectively choosing Binance.US, an offshore venue, or a DEX on BNB Chain. Coins can be held on-exchange or withdrawn to any EVM-compatible self-custody wallet, where BNB doubles as the gas token for BNB Chain.

BNB FAQ

Is BNB a security?

No US court has ruled that it is. The SEC's June 2023 lawsuit alleged BNB was offered as an unregistered security, but the agency dismissed the case with prejudice in May 2025 — meaning it cannot be refiled — without any finding against the token.

What is the BNB burn and when does it stop?

Two mechanisms shrink supply: a quarterly Auto-Burn computed from BNB's average price and BSC block production, and BEP-95, which burns a portion of gas fees in real time. Quarterly burns continue until total supply reaches 100 million BNB; the gas-fee burn continues even after that.

What happened in the 2022 BNB hack?

In October 2022 an attacker exploited the BSC Token Hub bridge to mint about 2 million new BNB (~$570 million) by forging withdrawal proofs. Validators halted the whole chain within hours, stranding most of the funds; roughly $100 million got out. It remains one of the largest bridge exploits ever.

Is BNB the same as Binance?

They are distinct but tightly coupled: BNB is a blockchain asset anyone can hold, while Binance is the company that created it and remains its biggest demand driver through fee discounts and token-launch programs. Binance's $4.3 billion DOJ settlement in 2023 showed the coupling works both ways — company news moves the coin.

Can you stake BNB?

Yes. BNB Chain uses proof-of-staked-authority: holders delegate BNB to validators and earn a share of fee income. The validator set is small compared with Ethereum's, which keeps the chain fast and cheap but is the standing decentralization critique against it.
