What moves Venus's price
- Protocol revenue and TVL: 20% of Venus's reserve revenue buys back XVS for vault stakers each quarter, so borrow demand across its markets (TVL has ranged around $1–2B) feeds directly into token demand.
- BNB Chain activity: as the chain's dominant money market, Venus usage tracks BNB ecosystem cycles.
- Tokenomics changes: the late-2023 overhaul — Venus Prime soulbound rewards funded by 20% of revenue, revenue redistribution, supply-reduction measures — was explicitly designed to reward stakers, and buyback events have historically moved the price sharply.
- The Prime staking sink: qualifying for Venus Prime requires staking at least 1,000 XVS for 90 consecutive days, which locks float.
- Multichain expansion: deployments to Ethereum, Arbitrum, opBNB, zkSync Era, Optimism, and Base broaden the fee base beyond BNB Chain.
- Security and bad-debt headlines, stated plainly: the May 2021 XVS price-manipulation event used inflated collateral to borrow ~4,100 BTC and ~9,600 ETH, causing $200M+ in liquidations and over $100M of bad debt (since worked down to roughly $36K per the protocol); early insider-control allegations around the founding Swipe team are documented; the BNB-bridge exploiter's $150M borrow position was resolved via governance in 2023; a September 2025 phishing attack on one large user ($13.5M) was answered with a 20-minute protocol pause and an $11.4M recovery; and a March 2026 oracle-manipulation exploit via the THE token left ~$2.15M in bad debt. Each of these repriced XVS.

About Venus
Venus launched in 2020 on Binance Smart Chain, built by the team behind Swipe under CEO Joselito Lizarondo — a fair-launch token but, as later disclosures documented, with early operational control concentrated in that team; an illiquid token connected to the founder was even used as collateral to borrow roughly $78M from the protocol in an episode that raised lasting governance questions. After the 2021 crises the Swipe team exited, and Venus has been stewarded since 2022 by a community council and Venus Labs under on-chain governance.
The protocol itself is a Compound-style pooled money market with a built-in stablecoin (VAI), and its post-2021 record is substantially a rehabilitation story: 20+ audits, a risk fund seeded from revenue, the bad debt worked down by orders of magnitude, and a governance process that has handled hard cases — including force-liquidating an exploiter's position — in public.
XVS tokenomics
Hard cap 30 million XVS; fair launch (20% Binance Launchpool, 1% grants, 79% emitted to suppliers, borrowers, and VAI minters over ~4 years). Staking in the XVS Vault carries governance power over Venus Improvement Proposals plus staking rewards. Protocol revenue splits 40% to treasury, 20% to vault-staker buybacks, 20% to the Venus Prime rewards program, and 20% to a risk fund that insures against bad debt.
How to buy Venus
XVS trades on Binance (its original Launchpool venue and most liquid market), HTX, MEXC, and other exchanges, and on BNB Chain DEXs. Verify availability on US venues before assuming access — a Coinbase listing is not confirmed.
Venus FAQ
What is VAI?
Venus's decentralized stablecoin: users mint it against overcollateralized crypto positions on the protocol, rather than it being backed by fiat reserves like USDT or USDC.
Is Venus like Aave or Compound?
Yes — a pooled money market with algorithmic interest rates, descended from Compound's code, but native to BNB Chain and with built-in stablecoin minting, which makes it closer to Compound and MakerDAO combined.
What happened to Venus in May 2021?
XVS's price was manipulated from about $76 to $144 in hours; actors borrowed ~4,100 BTC and ~9,600 ETH against the inflated collateral, and the crash caused over $200M in liquidations and $100M+ of bad debt. The protocol says that debt has since been repaid down to roughly $36,000.
What is Venus Prime?
A loyalty program: staking 1,000+ XVS for 90 consecutive days mints a non-transferable Prime token that boosts supply and borrow yields in selected markets, funded by 20% of protocol revenue.
Did the team pre-mine XVS?
No — there was no pre-sale or founder allocation. The honest caveat is that despite the fair launch, early operational control sat with the founding Swipe team, a tension that the 2021 incidents exposed and later community governance addressed.
