Over the past 30 days BCH has moved −5.71% and over the past 90 days −53.53%.

Circulating supply is 20,069,344 BCH , against a maximum supply of 21,000,000 BCH. Bitcoin Cash inherits Bitcoin's monetary policy: a 21 million hard cap with block rewards halving roughly every four years. About 20.05 million BCH — over 95% of the eventual supply — already circulate, and the reward has been 3.125 BCH per block since the April 2024 halving, so new-supply pressure is small and shrinking.

The gap to the record

Getting back to $4,356 from here would take a 21.1× move — that multiple, not the percentage, is the honest way to read a drawdown. The figure above updates every hour as our price snapshot refreshes; the record itself is an editorial fact recorded from CoinMarketCap — Bitcoin Cash (ATH $4,355.62 on 2017-12-20); cross-check CoinGecko Bitcoin Cash page (ATH $3,785.82 on 2017-12-19).

All-time low

Bitcoin Cash's recorded all-time low is $75.08, on December 15, 2018 (CoinMarketCap — Bitcoin Cash (ATL $75.08 on 2018-12-15); cross-check CoinGecko Bitcoin Cash page ($76.93, same date)). What moves Bitcoin Cash's price

  • Bitcoin beta: BCH shares Bitcoin's codebase ancestry, mining algorithm, and halving calendar, and between its own headlines it trades as a higher-volatility satellite of BTC, amplifying the market leader's moves in both directions.
  • The fork-and-split pattern: BCH exists because of the 2017 block-size war, and it has since split twice more — the November 15, 2018 hash war, in which Craig Wright's Bitcoin SV faction threatened to 51%-attack the chain and both sides burned SHA-256 hashpower, cut an asset trading near $425 into two pieces worth about $289 (BCH) and $97 (BSV) and preceded the all-time low a month later; in November 2020 the Bitcoin ABC developers split off over an 8% miner-tax funding plan and became eCash. Governance-by-fork is a documented, price-relevant risk.
  • Halvings: the block reward halved to 6.25 BCH in April 2020 and to 3.125 BCH in April 2024, with the next cut expected around 2028. Because BCH attracts only a low-single-digit share of total SHA-256 hashrate and on-chain fees are tiny, each halving also revives questions about the long-run security budget.
  • Payments adoption versus the narrative: the investment case is 'peer-to-peer electronic cash' — sub-cent fees, zero-confirmation retail payments, native tokens via the May 2023 CashTokens upgrade, and annual May 15 protocol upgrades (the 'Layla' hard fork shipped May 15, 2026). Measured usage has lagged the thesis since year one: Chainalysis found BitPay-processed BCH merchant payments fell from $10.5M in March 2018 to $3.7M that May, and blocks typically use a small fraction of the 32 MB capacity.
  • Roger Ver headlines: BCH's most prominent early champion, 'Bitcoin Jesus,' was indicted for US tax fraud and arrested in Spain in April 2024, then resolved the case in October 2025 through a deferred prosecution agreement that paid the IRS nearly $50 million — a reminder that sentiment around the coin still moves with its loudest personalities.

“BCH shares Bitcoin's codebase ancestry, mining algorithm, and halving calendar, and between its own headlines it trades as a higher-volatility satellite of BTC, amplifying the market leader's moves in both directions.”

About Bitcoin Cash

Bitcoin Cash split from Bitcoin on August 1, 2017 at block 478,558, the climax of the multi-year block-size war: rather than accept the SegWit scaling path, big-block advocates — most visibly Roger Ver and Bitmain co-founder Jihan Wu — raised the base block size to 8 MB (32 MB since 2018) to keep fees low for on-chain payments. Because it shares Bitcoin's ledger up to the fork, every pre-fork BTC holder received an equal amount of BCH, and the coin briefly ranked among the top three crypto assets during the December 2017 mania. The split also ignited a long-running branding fight: Ver's bitcoin.com marketed BCH as the 'real Bitcoin,' labeling the BCH chain simply 'Bitcoin' in its block explorer and defaulting its wallet to BCH addresses, until community backlash and a threatened class action by more than 800 users in 2018 pushed the site to relabel.

Its defining trauma is the November 15, 2018 hash war, when the chain split again into Bitcoin Cash and Craig Wright's Bitcoin SV amid open threats of 51% attacks and a costly hashpower standoff; the fight coincided with a brutal leg down across the whole crypto market, and BCH hit its all-time low a month later. A third split followed in November 2020, when lead implementation Bitcoin ABC forked away over a rejected 8% miner tax and became eCash. Development has since steadied under Bitcoin Cash Node with annual May 15 upgrades — CashTokens brought native tokens in 2023, an adaptive block-size algorithm arrived in 2024, and the 'Layla' upgrade followed in May 2026 — but merchant payment volume remains small relative to both the network's capacity and its founding thesis.

BCH tokenomics

BCH copies Bitcoin's issuance exactly: a 21 million hard cap, with all pre-fork distribution inherited from Bitcoin's mining history and post-fork coins issued solely as block rewards — no pre-mine and no foundation allocation. The reward is 3.125 BCH per roughly ten-minute block after the April 2024 halving (BCH halved in April 2020 and April 2024, slightly ahead of Bitcoin because its early emergency difficulty adjustment produced extra blocks), and about 20.05 million BCH of the cap already circulate. A proposal to redirect 8% of block rewards to developers was rejected in 2020, splitting off the eCash chain; BCH block rewards go entirely to miners.

SUPPLY
Bitcoin Cash inherits Bitcoin's monetary policy: a 21 million hard cap with block rewards halving roughly every four years.

How to buy Bitcoin Cash

BCH is one of the oldest tickers in crypto and is listed on effectively every major exchange, including Coinbase, Kraken, and Binance. Coins can be withdrawn to any wallet that supports the Bitcoin Cash chain; the practical caution is address format — BCH's 'cashaddr' format exists precisely so that BCH and BTC, which share a common address ancestry, are not sent to the wrong chain — so double-check which asset and network a wallet or deposit address expects.

Bitcoin Cash FAQ

Is Bitcoin Cash the same as Bitcoin?

No. Bitcoin Cash split from Bitcoin on August 1, 2017 and has been a separate blockchain and asset ever since, with its own price, mining, and development. The confusion was aggravated for years by bitcoin.com marketing BCH as the 'real Bitcoin' — a practice curtailed after community backlash and a threatened class action in 2018 — but every major exchange and data provider lists BCH and BTC as distinct assets.

What was Bitcoin Cash's all-time high?

About $4,356 on December 20, 2017 per CoinMarketCap, at the top of the first mania cycle, weeks after the fork. CoinGecko records a lower peak of about $3,786 a day earlier, reflecting how fragmented BCH trading was across exchanges at the time. The coin has traded far below either figure since — check the hourly-refreshed price at the top of this page for the current distance from the peak.

Why did Bitcoin Cash split from Bitcoin — and why did it keep splitting?

The original 2017 fork was the endgame of the block-size war: one camp wanted cheap payments via bigger blocks, the other wanted to keep blocks small and scale in layers. The same willingness to settle disputes by forking then hit BCH itself — Craig Wright's Bitcoin SV faction split the chain in the November 2018 hash war, and the Bitcoin ABC developers split off in November 2020 (becoming eCash) after their 8% miner-tax funding plan was rejected.

Does Bitcoin Cash have halvings and a supply cap?

Yes — it inherits Bitcoin's 21 million cap and four-year halving schedule. BCH halved in April 2020 and April 2024 (to the current 3.125 BCH per block), each time slightly ahead of Bitcoin because its early difficulty-adjustment quirks produced extra blocks; the next halving is expected around 2028.

Is Bitcoin Cash actually used for payments?

Far less than the thesis implies. Fees are genuinely sub-cent and merchant processors support it, but measured usage has been small since the first year — Chainalysis found BitPay-processed BCH merchant payments fell from $10.5M to $3.7M between March and May 2018 — and blocks typically use a small fraction of the 32 MB capacity. Most BCH volume is exchange trading, not point-of-sale spending.
