Shiba Inu launched in August 2020, created by the pseudonymous 'Ryoshi' as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and marketed as the 'Dogecoin killer'. One quadrillion tokens were minted: about half was locked in Uniswap liquidity and the other half sent unsolicited to Vitalik Buterin — a stunt that defined the coin's early story when Buterin donated 50+ trillion SHIB to India's Covid relief fund and burned 410 trillion more in May 2021.
