AR price context

Arweave's all-time high is $89.24, reached on November 5, 2021. At today's price of $1.71, AR trades 98.1% below that peak. Its lowest recorded price was $0.2988 on January 31, 2020.

Over the past 30 days AR has moved −14.14% and over the past 90 days −20.76%.

Circulating supply is 65,652,466 AR , against a maximum supply of 66,000,000 AR. Supply is hard-capped at 66 million AR — 55 million minted at genesis in 2018 plus 11 million in block rewards — and about 99.5% is already circulating, so remaining emission is negligible. Storage payments flow into an endowment that releases to miners over decades, acting as a structural supply sink.

The gap to the record

Getting back to $89.24 from here would take a 52.1× move — that multiple, not the percentage, is the honest way to read a drawdown. The figure above updates every hour as our price snapshot refreshes; the record itself is an editorial fact recorded from CoinGecko.

All-time low

Arweave's recorded all-time low is $0.2988, on January 31, 2020 (CoinGecko). From that low to today's price is the other end of the same story — aggregators differ on launch-era data, so we name the source we cite.

What moves Arweave's price

  • Storage demand: upload fees are the token's fundamental demand sink — the network stores roughly 347 TiB with on the order of 33 GiB uploaded daily, and fee flow scales with that growth.
  • The AO compute layer: holding AR has minted AO tokens since June 2024 (roughly a third of AO's ongoing fair-launch emission goes pro-rata to AR holders), and AO news moves AR — the token ran from under $10 to over $40 on the AO announcement in early 2024, then gave most of it back. AO's February 2025 mainnet was followed by criticism that adoption underwhelmed, with bridged TVL falling from about $700M to about $315M.
  • The AI data narrative: permanent, verifiable storage for AI datasets and agent memory is the sector's current bull thesis, and AR trades with that narrative.
  • Upload-infrastructure concentration: bundling services have at times handled over 90% of Arweave transactions. The December 2023 public feud between founder Sam Williams and the largest bundler, Irys — including accusations of a planned fork and the removal of Irys from trusted gateways — dropped AR about 20% in days, and Irys ultimately left to launch a competing chain marketing much cheaper storage.
  • Thin-supply dynamics: with almost all supply out and no meaningful inflation, AR's swings are demand-driven; a February 2026 scare in which a block explorer showed stalled block production (the chain had not actually stopped) still moved the price down sharply before being corrected.

KEY DRIVER · STORAGE DEMAND

About Arweave

Arweave was founded by Sam Williams and William Jones, then PhD candidates at the University of Kent, as "Archain" in 2017; it rebranded in early 2018 and launched mainnet that June. Its consensus mechanism, Proof of Access, requires miners to prove they can access random historical data, which economically incentivizes replicating the whole "weave." On top of the storage layer sits the permaweb — permanently hosted sites and apps — and, since 2025, the AO compute network, which uses Arweave for its data layer.

The economic design is the differentiator: a one-time upload fee prices in roughly 200 years of storage at current costs, and the assumption that storage costs keep declining means the endowment's purchasing power should outlast its payout schedule. Whether real storage demand grows into that design is the long-term question the price argues about.

AR tokenomics

Hard cap of 66 million AR with ~99.5% circulating; miner revenue comes from block rewards (nearly exhausted), direct fees, and endowment releases. The AO token launched 100% fair — no presale or investor allocation — with about a third of its ongoing minting distributed to AR holders simply for holding (not staking), a direct, mechanical reason to hold AR through the AO cycle.

SUPPLY
Supply is hard-capped at 66 million AR — 55 million minted at genesis in 2018 plus 11 million in block rewards — and about 99.

How to buy Arweave

AR trades on Binance, Kraken, OKX, Bybit, KuCoin, Gate, and HTX. It is not tradable on Coinbase. Long-term holders who want the AO minting stream need self-custody or an exchange that passes AO through.

Arweave FAQ

How can a one-time fee pay for storage forever?

Upload fees fund a storage endowment that compensates miners over time. The protocol assumes storage costs keep declining — as they have historically — so the endowment's purchasing power outlasts the payout schedule. The fee prices in roughly 200 years of storage at current costs.

How is Arweave different from Filecoin?

Filecoin sells renewable storage leases — you pay per period and data disappears if contracts lapse. Arweave sells permanence: one payment, backed by the endowment, with the network incentivized to replicate old data forever.

What is AO, and do AR holders get it?

AO is a decentralized "hyperparallel" compute network that settles its data on Arweave; its mainnet launched in February 2025. Its 21M-token supply is 100% fair-launched, and roughly a third of ongoing minting goes pro-rata to AR holders — held AR, not staked — since June 2024.

Can you mine AR?

Yes. Arweave mining (SPoRA — Succinct Proofs of Random Access) rewards storing replicas of the dataset; it is hard-drive- and CPU-bound rather than GPU/ASIC-dominated.

What was Arweave's all-time high?

About $89 in November 2021. The token trades roughly 98% below that peak, with the 2024 AO announcement rally (under $10 to over $40) the largest move since.
