Block rewards add new TRX while transaction fees are burned, and for years burns exceeded issuance, making TRX net-deflationary — until an August 2025 fee cut roughly halved burn revenue and tilted net issuance back toward inflation.

The gap to the record

Getting back to $0.4407 from here would take a 1.3× move — that multiple, not the percentage, is the honest way to read a drawdown. The figure above updates every hour as our price snapshot refreshes; the record itself is an editorial fact recorded from CoinMarketCap - TRON Historical Data.

What moves TRON's price

  • Stablecoin settlement volume: TRON hosts over $80 billion of USDT — more than Ethereum — and processed roughly $7.9 trillion in USDT transfers in 2025. Those transfers consume energy paid in burned TRX, so Tether flows are the network's demand engine.
  • Fee and burn policy: Super Representative governance sets resource prices, and changes cut both ways — the August 2025 vote (Proposal #789) that dropped the energy price from 210 to 100 sun made transfers cheaper but cut network revenue about 60% within days and pushed TRX from net-deflationary toward inflationary.
  • Justin Sun's legal and headline arc, stated factually: the SEC sued Sun and his companies in March 2023, alleging unregistered sales of TRX and BTT, market manipulation via 600,000+ wash trades, and undisclosed celebrity promotions. The case settled in March 2026 — a $10 million penalty paid by Rainberry Inc., all claims against Sun and the foundations dismissed with prejudice, no admission of wrongdoing. TRX has repriced on each turn of that case.
  • The Tron Inc. equity wrapper: in June 2025, Nasdaq-listed SRM Entertainment became Tron Inc. (ticker TRON) via a reverse merger arranged by Dominari Securities, a Trump Tower-based bank whose advisory board includes Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump; the Financial Times reported Eric Trump was expected to take a role, which he denied. The vehicle is the largest public TRX treasury, adding an equity-market demand channel — and political-exposure risk.
  • Competition for the stablecoin rail: Ethereum layer-2s, Solana, and purpose-built stablecoin chains compete for USDT and USDC flows; TRON's moat is cost (median transfer fee near $0.09) and entrenchment in emerging-market remittances.
  • Reputation history remains part of the risk premium: in January 2018, Protocol Labs founder Juan Benet documented that pages of TRON's whitepaper were copied without attribution from the IPFS and Filecoin papers; Sun attributed it to volunteer translation. The episode still anchors skepticism about the project's originality.

“TRON hosts over $80 billion of USDT — more than Ethereum — and processed roughly $7.9 trillion in USDT transfers in 2025. Those transfers consume energy paid in burned TRX, so Tether flows are the network's demand engine.”

About TRON

TRON was founded in 2017 by Justin Sun, raising about $70 million in an ICO just before China banned token sales, and launched its mainnet in 2018. It runs delegated proof-of-stake: TRX holders vote for 27 Super Representatives who produce blocks every three seconds. Its early history is contentious — the January 2018 whitepaper plagiarism findings, the SEC's 2023 fraud and unregistered-securities suit (settled in 2026 for $10 million with no admission of wrongdoing) — and Sun's acquisitions of BitTorrent (2018) and Steemit (2020) kept him among crypto's most polarizing figures.

Whatever the controversies, the network found genuine product-market fit as Tether's settlement layer. Cheap, fast TRC-20 transfers made TRON the default USDT rail in emerging markets; by 2026 it carried the majority of USDT supply and over half of global stablecoin transfer volume. That utility — not its dApp ecosystem — is why TRON sits in the top ten by market cap.

TRX tokenomics

No supply cap; 100 billion TRX at genesis, roughly 94.9 billion circulating. Users stake ('freeze') TRX to receive bandwidth and energy, the network's metered resources; transactions without staked resources burn TRX to cover fees. New TRX is issued as block and voting rewards to Super Representatives and their voters. Burns exceeded issuance for years, shrinking supply, but the August 2025 fee cut roughly halved burn revenue, so whether TRX is deflationary now depends on network activity and future fee votes.

How to buy TRON

TRX trades on most major global exchanges, including Binance, Kraken, HTX, and OKX. US availability has historically been patchier than for other top-ten coins — Coinbase has not been a reliable venue for it — so verify listing status on your exchange before assuming access. Equity investors can get indirect exposure through Tron Inc. (Nasdaq: TRON), a TRX treasury company, which carries its own corporate and disclosure risks distinct from the token.

TRON FAQ

What actually drives TRON's usage?

Tether. Over $80 billion of USDT lives on TRON — more than on Ethereum — and the network processed roughly $7.9 trillion in USDT transfers in 2025 at a median fee near $0.09. Stablecoin settlement, especially in emerging markets, is the core business; the dApp ecosystem is secondary.

What happened with the SEC case against Justin Sun?

The SEC sued Sun, the Tron and BitTorrent foundations, and Rainberry Inc. in March 2023, alleging unregistered sales of TRX and BTT, wash trading to fake volume, and undisclosed paid celebrity promotions. In March 2026 the case settled: Rainberry pays a $10 million penalty, and all claims against Sun and the foundations were dismissed with prejudice, with no admission or denial of wrongdoing.

Is TRX deflationary?

It was for years — fee burns exceeded block rewards, shrinking supply. The August 2025 fee cut (energy price from 210 to 100 sun) reduced burn revenue by roughly 60%, tilting net issuance back toward inflation. There is no supply cap, so the balance depends on activity and future governance votes.

Are TRON the blockchain and Tron Inc. the stock the same thing?

No. TRON is the blockchain; TRX is its token. Tron Inc. is a Nasdaq company (former toy maker SRM Entertainment) that reverse-merged in June 2025 into a TRX treasury vehicle with Justin Sun as an adviser. The stock gives indirect TRX exposure with separate corporate risks.

Was TRON's whitepaper plagiarized?

In January 2018, Protocol Labs founder Juan Benet documented that extended sections of TRON's English whitepaper were copied without attribution from the IPFS and Filecoin papers. Justin Sun blamed a volunteer translation of the Chinese original. The project's code and paper have since diverged, but the episode is well documented.
