Gram slips as Durov pledges wallet for a billion users

Gram slips as Durov pledges wallet for a billion users — Markets · CryptoNewsAlert feature card

A pledge to put a crypto wallet in front of a billion people reads like a milestone. Until the market prices it, though, it is a headline. Gram, the native coin of the Telegram-linked blockchain, gave its own reply this week — and the reply leaned toward selling.

Where Durov makes his promises land

Pavel Durov’s official Telegram channel is the venue where the Telegram founder posts his product commitments to more than 11.5 million subscribers. The reach behind the wallet pledge is real: The Open Network’s site describes a blockchain ecosystem “built into Telegram, connecting payments, digital assets, and mini apps for 1B+ users,” and frames that integration as giving the technology “unprecedented reach among its 1B+ active users.” Gram sits at the center of that plan — TON lists it as the coin used to pay fees, participate in validation, and vote, with transfers costing roughly 0.00039 Gram.

That is the promise. The token response is a separate question.

The 24 hours that sold rather than celebrated

Here the mood turns technical. Our licensed CoinMarketCap snapshot shows Gram at about $1.4736, down 3.24% over the trailing 24 hours. A wallet pledge aimed at a billion users would, in a purely narrative reading, be a demand story. The tape did not cooperate.

Trading volume ran to roughly $51.16 million across the day, against a market capitalization near $4.02 billion, according to the same feed. That is a modest turnover ratio — a little over one percent of the cap changing hands — which describes a market reacting quietly rather than one repricing on conviction.

A week of erosion beneath the announcement

The softness is not a single-session blip. The CoinMarketCap figures put Gram down 11.61% over the past seven days and 10.10% over thirty. Both windows sit below the daily loss, meaning the recent slide predates and outweighs the 24-hour move.

So the wallet pledge arrived into a declining trend, not a rally it interrupted. Whatever adoption case the billion-user framing implies, the licensed data records a coin that has been giving back ground for a month. The announcement, on these numbers, slowed nothing.

Two snapshots that do not agree

There is a wrinkle worth stating plainly. TON’s own homepage displays a Gram quote of $1.53, up 5.94% over 24 hours, with a $4.17 billion market cap ranked #21 and $123 million in daily volume. Our CoinMarketCap data reads lower and negative: $1.4736, down 3.24%, roughly $4.02 billion in cap, and about $51.16 million traded.

The gap is a reminder that on-site tickers and aggregated exchange feeds capture different timestamps, venues, and volume methodologies. The direction of the two readings diverges, which is exactly why the specific source of any number matters. This article’s figures are the CoinMarketCap ones except where the TON site is named directly.

The billion, and what the coin did with it

Telegram’s blog has spent the past year shipping consumer features — collectible gifts moved to the blockchain, Stars purchasable with Gram, ad payouts routed through the token — so a native wallet extends an existing on-ramp rather than inventing one. The distribution ambition is genuine and documented; you can trace the broader layer-1 context and compare it against other assets on our coins directory.

But return to where this started. The pledge targets a billion users. What Gram actually did with that headline, per the licensed data, was trade about $51 million in a single day while falling 3.24% — inside a seven-day decline of 11.61% that the announcement did not reverse. A wallet for a billion people is the promise on paper. A token off double digits on the week is the number the market printed underneath it.
